Back to School Under Bombs: In Kyiv, the First Day Begins with Sirens, Not Bells
As children around the world walk into classrooms, Ukrainian children take shelter underground to begin their school year.
Deadlines come and go. Promises are made, then quietly forgotten. Donald Trump once boasted that he had secured commitments between Putin and Zelensky — a neat little deal to end the war, tied up in a bow. But like so many of his claims, it was a mirage. I told you at the time it was nothing but theatrics. And now Russia itself has confirmed it. There was never a plan. There was never an agreement. Just another Trump deadline passing into dust, while Ukraine burns.
That same night, as Trump remained silent, Russia unleashed its largest drone assault in weeks. One hundred and fifty Shaheds filled the skies, their engines buzzing like a plague of locusts. By dawn, Ukraine’s defenders had shot down or jammed 120 of them. But thirty still slipped through. In Odesa’s Izmail district, explosions shook the air as port infrastructure went up in flames. In Sumy, fire swallowed buildings near a kindergarten, leaving children injured and families homeless. In Bila Tserkva, for the second night in a row, drones ripped apart hangars and apartment windows, killing a man as his city slept.
And while real people counted their dead, Russian generals sat comfortably in Moscow, reviewing maps of conquest. Behind Gerasimov’s shoulder, the truth appeared in blurred lines: Odesa and Mykolaiv, erased, folded into Russia. Sobolev, a deputy in the Duma, said the quiet part out loud: they will not stop until Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv are “liberated” — in other words, stolen. Half the country wiped away, just as Putin dreamed.
Trump? He said nothing. No outrage, no condemnation, not even a whisper of support for the Ukrainian children spending their first school day underground, hiding in metro stations while the sirens screamed. Silence. And make no mistake — silence in the face of evil is complicity.
Most children start their first day of school with sharpened pencils, backpacks, and the sound of a bell. In Ukraine, that same day begins with the sound of air raid sirens. In Kyiv, children don’t walk into classrooms — they shelter underground in metro stations, waiting for the all-clear. Their first lessons are not in math or reading, but in survival. This is the reality of war, where childhood itself is interrupted by bombs.
And while he stays silent, a new axis is being forged in real time. Russia, China, and North Korea are tightening their grip, and even India is being pulled into their orbit. They gather together in Beijing plotting the world they want to control, and they laugh at Donald Trump. They laugh because they know his silence is their strength. They laugh because they see what too many refuse to admit: while Ukraine burns, the balance of power is shifting.
And in the middle of all this, Oleksandr is there, not in words but in action. He is delivering aid into the hands of soldiers, families, and children who wake each day under bombardment. Thanks to your generosity, those supplies reach the ones who need them most. In the face of fire, he carries hope — and that hope comes from you.

Children everywhere are under attack. They all deserve happy carefree start of school days. In Ukraine sirens and bunkers; in Gaza food and school are but a memory and in America ICE is given the go ahead into schools and kidnap children just like Putin kidnapping kids.
With you!!
