That's exactly what it's going to take to shut this damned shit down ! No more waiting, waiting would be like getting bitten by a black mamba and wondering if the toxin will really kill you soon & delay getting anti- venom.....we've got to instill the FEAR of OUR POWER into these POS politicians and corporations.....let them know that they can NEVER predict when we'll shut them down AGAIN for trying to fuck us all over. It's TIME.
Just so scary!!! My heart breaks for you all! I know living in Canada 🇨🇦 keeps us safe FOR NOW! But I know that if this is happening to Th US - it can happen anywhere!!!!! I continue to stand in solidarity with you all and promise to keep spreading the truth! God bless you all!! Elbows up!! The fight is by no means over!!! 🇨🇦🇺🇸❣️
It’s time to fight back. I was wondering if we can bring a class action suit and then of course the Supreme Court won’t recognize it but that will be the excuse to rebel. Class action the 14th amendment section 3?🤷🏼♀️🤣 it’s the Supreme Court stuff that scares me the most.
Does this new court decision also apply to Trumps kids? All but one are born to immigrant mothers. Has anyone investigated the legality of how the mothers entered this country? I read an article on Goggle that Melania's citizenship had been in question at one time. Maybe time to look into it. We can deport his kids to a third world country although I'm not sure he would care. No money in it for him.
No no no. The status of the parents is IRRELEVANT to the legal citizen status of anyone born IN THIS COUNTRY. If you're BORN HERE, you're automatically a citizen. It doesn't matter where your parents are from !
Lynn, not so fast. At 1:00 p.m. an appeal for class action certification was filed, then another for injunctive relief of the SCOTUS ruling. The SCOTUS ruling was not about the subject matter of birthright citizenship but of nationwide injunctive relief. So, class action relief will most likely address the issue of birthright citizenship. This issue isn't done yet.
For your convenience, here's a nice summary of the law:
I already have that information through our attorneys here at Substack but with not having a legal background I'm dependent on what they say and it wasn't good news. I will look at the summary you sent and hope others do also. Thank you for letting us know.
I am an attorney, while it's bad and was surprising that SCOTUS took the case, it's not yet hopeless, in my opinion. There are ways to fight this nightmare.
I agree that it's not hopeless but right now it's not good. SCOTUS is a corrupt court that doesn't abide by the Constitution or the law of the land. They can do more damage with this then they already have done. We're so lucky to have people like you with the education and knowledge to help us out. Thank you.
If birthright citizens aren’t really citizens, then why are naturalized citizens really citizens?
I remember something my grandmother said to me but only after we arrived in America because it wasn’t safe to say it before we landed on US shores and were certain of our asylum, “Here you have political freedom.”
I am a naturalized US citizen. Immigrated from Europe as a small child over 60 years ago. My family got citizenship 6 years later and we finally felt SAFE! Heartbreaking how things change when fascists take over (via COUP, let’s be honest).
I still don’t get how Dump can just blithely change the Constitution to suit his whims.
Exactly. You think that once you are a citizen you are safe. I never imagined America could treat people like this. Any of it.
I think its the old problem of concentrating too much power in the hands of a single entity. In this case, republicans control the presidency, the congress, and the court - and all of them report to Trump. Who is going to check that balance when it is against their interests to do so? …especially when they are fascists.
Moving fast and breaking stuff is now a tornado of unruly proportions. The SCOTUS has lost its moral compass and simply stopped functioning as a legal body…. Castrated and uncaring. They are simply null and void.
My heart aches for the three liberal justices: Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson. Three strong, esteemed, righteous women who are completely powerless now. Wearing my “I DISSENT” shirt today to honor them. 💔
I am deeply saddened by the state of America under the trump regime. Since I love America and all it has stood for I have no comprehension why this regime and the entire republican Congress would work to destroy it. We must fight.
Watching the shitshow at the White House right now is painful. So many lies, so much ranting, and remember, there is no evidence whatsover that the 2020 election was stolen! He praised and “looovvvedd” the journalist who asked about investigating Biden's DOJ for investigating him. SCOTUS just further handed him the reins of the kingdom he’s trying to build.
NO KINGS 2.0 on July 4th has never seemed more important than right now. 🚫🫅
Oh, Lev, I just don't understand this Supreme Court majority. My family first arrived here in 1633 in Plymouth. A direct ancestor fought in the Revolution, and my ancestors and family members have fought in most of the other wars, up to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq (a West Point graduate and one of the first two female Army rangers). They would not consider me a citizen? What about Stephen Miller? Didn't his family get here in the last century? What about t? Didn't his family get here in the 19th century? Neither of these men or any one in their family fought in any of our wars. t pretended he had bone spurs to avoid service in Vietnam. My cousin, an Air Force pilot, bombed Cambodia illegally and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Who are John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Scalia, and the others? Why have they no loyalty to the Constitution?
I wish I were savvy enough to draw out the family trees for all of these despicable tyrants to visually see how long their families have lived in the US. Maybe I’ll just pick one person and see where it leads.
Here's fire back atcha, Lev. I am now growing old, and I've in one way or another been fighting this backslide into cynical autocracy my entire life. You could see it coming, largely behind the scenes. And in the Before Times no one wanted to hear your warnings. And even then, when I was in high school for chrissakes, I got 'detained' by our Vice Principal for the heinous (and legally unsupported) crime of wearing a Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee pin. And I'm white, and was an honor student and even went with a member of our Varsity Football team to prom. Can you imagine what might have happened to me then if I'd been Latino or black? And what might still happen to me now when I attend a rally? Good god. And even so, if we haven't clawed our way to a better system of democracy by then, I hope to die fighting for one.
I was very afraid this might happen. The Irish side of my family came in the early 1800 as did the German side. I am just as much a birthright citizen as everyone else. Except the first born. Where do we draw these lines. We ALL NEED TO STAND AGAINST THIS BETRAYAL OF THE AMERICAN PROMISE. It was made to all of us!
I feel so sad and powerless today. Even guilty for not having to worry about myself or my kids. All i know to do is what you say here Lev, speak up, and be mindful to show extra kindness the ways I am able to those I know must be feeling vulnerable.
You might not be able to think of a reason as to why you and your family don’t have to worry based on the situation right at this moment, but I’m pretty certain something will come about from this admin that puts you at an unfortunate risk. Actually, being female is a risk. Making comments on public platforms can be a risk. That said, I understand the guilt. It’s like acknowledging my son can walk down the street wearing a hoodie, but my friend’s black son doesn’t have that same security. For me, I try to remain as empathetic as possible while trying not to allow the guilt to somehow paralyze me. We’ve got this. Somehow, some way, we’ll rise above. ❤️
i’m talking specifically about what the Supreme Court did today regarding birth right citizenship. Trust me I get it. I’m a single mom of a gay kid. But we are white and that is privilege.
100% white privilege is all too real. I just feel like birth right citizenship is one step. Who’s to stay he decides to overstep more of the Constitution and decide that people with disabilities don’t deserve to live here. Then people who are gay. I wasn’t trying to minimize your feelings, and I’m sorry if it came across as such. Trump just seems to be able to include more and more people in his deportation efforts the more this goes on. I do think this decision was a punch in the gut to a lot of people, making many feel defeated. I’m glad for these spaces on Substack where we can share our feelings together.
I agree with you completely. I’m a registered nurse and extraordinarily worried about patients and hospitals. Thank you for the note. We are stronger together. l 💝
We must fight and start with a month long NATIONWIDE STRIKE.

United we stand!
I can’t even…
We must fight on against this regime in the way that each of us is able to do so🔥

You might want to read todays ruling. It's also going to effect DACA and can have them deported. What you're saying use to be correct. Not anymore.

Spot on, Julie!!! That is the $10,000 question. 🤨
Remember when the lying piece of filth said this, “Trump: I’m the Least Racist Person in This Room.”
Remember not to long ago it was just about sending the criminal’s, rapists & gang members back?”
Thank God he’s not my Daddy.
Remind me Trump, where Melania was born.

Do Trump. It's less than 200 years. Miller is even less.
I was thinking about starting with Miller. If I get things on my to do list completed, I work on it this evening.
I’m going on 70 years old and I have to look around and ask; where the hell do I live!??!
